As one of the UK"s leading healthcare architects, Colin has twenty five years experience designing Health and Wellbeing projects.  He is interested in all facets of the Health and Wellbeing strand - design, the healing environment, NHS guidance, Firecode, health & safety, construction detailing and delivery.

Colin graduated from Strathclyde University, Glasgow with Bsc Hons and BA Architecture in 1981.  He worked with Wylie Shanks for a number of years and was later invited to join Keppie in 1987 to be Project Architect for the 300 bed Ayr District General Hospital.  Over the last ten years Colin has been largely involved in the PFI process advising various Trusts and bidders.  Over the last three years Colin has become increasingly involved in partnering forms of procurement.

As a Client focused Director, Colin has retained the role as project architect for differing scales of health projects including the New Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and University of Edinburgh Medical School and the new Forth Valley Acute Hospital. The experience gained though his advising and smaller project roles are invaluable in extending Colin"s depth of healthcare knowledge.  Colin also takes on the role of Health and Wellbeing knowledge management and teaching within Keppie.

Colin was instrumental in Keppie"s view that the UK has a lot to learn from our European colleagues as opposed to US models.  He has enjoyed several study tours of European healthcare facilities and conferences including Scandinavia, France, Austria and Italy.  As part of added value to the health sector, Colin also brings experience from the private sector, office and retail design, along with specialist experience of large water treatment works.

Colin says:

"The challenges associated with delivering successful healthcare environments and buildings are like no other building type.  As an architect, knowing that the end product really affects the lives of patients, relatives and staff carries a heavy responsibility.  This level of challenge is rewarded by direct involvement with the dedicated healthcare professionals."
